University of Warwick Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Building

The £33m state-of-the-art research building on the University’s Gibbet Hall campus will bring together up to 300 biomedical researchers to fight human infectious diseases. The facility will also enable world-class research in neuroscience, microbiology, infection, cell biology and disease models – supporting and facilitating interdisciplinary biomedical research of the highest quality.

S+B UK manufactured, supplied and installed laboratory furniture to a total of 70 laboratories, preparation and storage rooms.

The Exemplaire C frame, a high-quality system with a functional life span of more than 25 years, facilitates both push under mobile storage and suspended units, providing flexibility and multiple choices for future reconfiguration. The Trespa worktops offer chemical resistance and excellent resistance to wear and tear.

Wall-mounted cupboards and over bench spine shelving, as well as tall storage, provide additional storage space while keeping the floor free of obstructions.

Safety stations with concealed plumbing and fitted with first Aid and emergency equipment were positioned in easily accessible areas, to meet the work environment safety requirements

Client Testimonial

"The IBRB scheme required a high-quality, yet affordable, product for human infectious diseases research laboratories at an expanding medical university [...] and the decision to invest additional capital for a level of quality and high service was the correct decision.

The university's existing building users also recommended S+B products in their existing facility, so a mixture of contract drawings and end-user feedback led to a good procured solution. Gary’s efforts up front to ensure the correct product for the correct scenario and use were exceptional, and again the customer feedback on samples for DTM’s was great.

The package was placed, and the design period was tight as always, but the products were delivered on time despite Brexit and Covid delays in the industry. The install was executed to the day as the planned period, which Gary’s colleague Paul delivered to his promises.

Following the main install, the team decided to leave back panels and loose items off, and store them at S+B to ensure no damage or going missing on site. These were then recently installed, along with circa 50nr vertical boxings, which the team decided would be better in S+B product than plasterboard as design intent.

These boxings are robust and fit for purpose and longevity, again impressed the customer. All in all the experience through procurement, into the design, and executed on-site, has been top draw. I would certainly recommend S+B to colleagues within Willmott Dixon. Having good people that understand the Willmott Dixon values, in Gary and Paul, have led to an exceptional installation."
