Network International School, the oldest British international school in Yangon, serves over 800 students from around 25 different nationalities. As the first and only school in Myanmar to achieve British School Overseas (BSO) accreditation, NIS is committed to academic excellence, holistic development, and preparing global citizens.
In 2022, the school inaugurated its new secondary campus, reflecting a forward-thinking approach to education with modern, high-quality learning facilities. It includes three science labs and two prep rooms, designed to inspire and prepare students for a changing world.
The school’s vision for the science labs was to create adaptable, collaborative spaces able to support diverse teaching methods and practical activities, all while meeting the highest standards.
To bring this vision to life, S+B worked closely with NIS’s Headteacher, Carl Dent, and Head of Science, Jenny Taylor. A key part of the process was a site visit to one of our UK installations, which provided the NIS team with a first-hand look at how flexible school furniture could transform their labs. Inspired by this visit, NIS chose our Xenium Service Towers and Tables System with the Intercon connection system. This innovative system enables the labs to be easily reconfigured to accommodate different learning styles, from individual study to group collaboration.
This school furniture system includes mobile worktables with lockable castors, ensuring secure surfaces for practical experiments, all fitted with Corian worktops for the highest durability and performance standards.
Additionally, the labs feature perimeter benching with wall cupboards and under-bench storage, a Mobiline fume cupboard, and tall storage units to support efficient use of space and safety.
